William Lawrence Swearingin, 89, passed away January 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was known as Larry, Lawrence, or Papa to his family and friends. Larry and his wife Anita Maxine (Lotz) were happily married for 68 years. He began his career as a traveling evangelist and retired as a business owner of a concrete foundation company. Larry was an active man and loved being around people for great conversation, social time, and time with family. Fortunately, Anita is an excellent cook, because to Larry there was nothing better than combining family and friend time with a great meal. He loved to read non-fiction, travel, go on cruises, fish, and talk business and politics.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Swearingin; parents, John William Swearingin and Esther Lorena (Sharp); and his two sisters, Mary Louise Roberson and Leila Mae Lotz.
Larry is survived by his wife, Anita; daughter, Sharon (Andy) Embrey; daughter-in-law, Valerie Swearingin; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation service will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM, at the Lawson United Christian & Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10 AM at the Lawson United Christian & Presbyterian Church. Graveside services following at Old Union Cemetery.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ALS Association.
Arrangements are in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home Lawson Chapel.
