Kathy Soutter, 69, passed away at home unexpectedly February 2, 2025. She was born July 9, 1955 in Sasebo, Japan, while her father, Jack Soutter Sr. was in the Navy after marrying her mother, Seiko Susaki Soutter. They returned to Excelsior Springs, MO, while she was a baby and she has lived in the area her entire life. She graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1973. After attending a technical school, she worked for TWA for 24 years. She also worked for the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank, Lifetouch Yearbook Company and Garmin in Olathe, KS, where she retired after more than 10 years.
Kathy had a larger-than-life personality and loved her friends and family dearly. She had a kind heart and was always willing to help others with anything. Although she never had kids of her own, she was very close to her twin nephews, Kevin and Joey. She was “Aunt Kathy” to everyone. She was also enjoying her 2-year-old great nephew, Theo, and was proud of the life-sized bear she crocheted for him.
She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and everyone knew when they made a good play by her high volume of cheering! She had a way of adding an artistic flair to everything she did. She loved cooking and sharing her delicious creations with friends and family. She loved creating things with her hands whether it was painting fine porcelain dolls, sewing, making handmade holiday ornaments and gifts, all kinds of crafts, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. She also enjoyed watching movies at the theater with a bucket of popcorn. She recently got a kitten “Romeo” and was enjoying his company and playful antics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Rowland Soutter Sr. and Seiko Susaki Soutter.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Soutter and sister-in-law, Rhonda of Liberty MO; nephew, Kevin Soutter and wife, Taylor of Kearney MO; nephew, Joey Soutter and wife, Katie of Kearney MO; great nephew, Theo Soutter; aunt, Betty Mills; many cousins that kept in touch frequently and many friends and co-workers that she enjoyed having lunches, dinners and drinks with.
As Kathy was an animal lover, the family suggests donations made in her honor to an animal shelter of your choice.
We will have a celebration of life Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Community Room at Excelsior Springs Community Center, 500 Tiger Drive, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
Let’s keep it casual and wear Chiefs gear in memory of Kathy.
