John Thomas Stevenson, 81, of Orrick, MO, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Liberty Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on September 29, 1943 to James and Leota Stevenson. John enjoyed spending time with his family. He made sure everyone had a smile on their face and laughed.
John married the love of his life, Alice, on August 16, 1963 and had five children; three daughters and two sons. He worked at Tarkio Ranch in Kearney, MO, for over 20 years. He enjoyed watching John Wayne and other western shows. Other than spending time with family, John loved mowing every chance he had. He spent time working on lawnmowers and always included his grandchildren on all his projects. He made sure to point out any overgrown lawn he saw. John also loved bowling and was a member of many leagues throughout the years. He didn’t let age stop him from enjoying it. John was described as an ornery and stubborn old man but young at heart. He always left the best impression on everyone he met. He was the kindest and most loving family man. He was a beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend who will be missed by many.
Survivors include his two sons, John Stevenson Jr. and Richard Stevenson Sr.; two daughters, Teresa (Victor) Bernard and Loretta Stevenson; seven grandchildren, Brooke (Grant) Perkins, Patrick (Haley) Stevenson, Nick (Gage) Covey, Tyler Covey, Richie (Kylee) Stevenson, LJ (Amanda) Hedgpeth, and Jeremy Wilson; nine great-grandchildren, Rhett, Jettson, Braylee, Charmayne, Camren, Bailey, Hollie, Brycen, and Madycen; sister, Linda Stevenson; and other extended family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Stevenson; daughter, Patricia Hedgpeth; and three granddaughters, Victoria Bernard, Ashley Bernard, and Taylor Covey; three brothers, James Stevenson, Kenny Stevenson, and Phillip Stevenson; two sisters, Margaret Curtis and Juanita Holtzclaw ; and parents, James and Leota Stevenson.
On Monday, February 24, 2025 visitation services will be held at Fry-Bross & Spidle Chapels, 208 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, MO, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will start immediately after at 12:30 p.m. Burial to follow at Providence Baptist Church at 12206 N. Stark Ave., Kansas City, MO 64167.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations towards funeral expenses.
