Carla (Lampson) McGee, 58, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on April 27, 2025, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri, from pancreatic cancer.
Carla was born on June 6, 1966, in North Kansas City — in the very same building where she departed this world. She called it her “round trip.”
She had a long and fulfilling career as an educator, teaching elementary school in Cameron, Missouri, and elementary, middle school, and art classes in Kansas City, Missouri. After retiring, she continued to work with students as a paraprofessional in Kansas City, Kansas. Carla loved to tell stories from her many years in the classroom. Even outside of school, she never stopped teaching — sharing lessons in generosity, love, and humor.
She loved to travel, cook, and shop. She enjoyed visiting friends in New York and Florida. On a recent trip to California and Oregon with her brother and mother, she especially loved Muir Woods and Redwoods National Park. One of her favorite places closer to home was her parents’ farm in Grenola, Kansas, where she would hold court on the deck with her dog, Peggy Sue, enjoying conversations, sunsets, starry skies, and the sounds of coyotes.
Carla was preceded in death by her husband, Andy McGee; and grandchild, Savannah.
She is survived by her parents, Delbert and Janet Lampson; her son, Andrew J. Runnebaum and his wife, Kendall Runnebaum; and her grandchildren, Sam and Lily; and her siblings, Jeff Lampson, Sheila Lampson Alexander and her husband, Jim, and Michael Lampson and his wife, Bret. She leaves behind countless family members, friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives she touched. We will deeply miss her love for life, her laughter, and her unforgettable smile.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at The Grove Church, 7027 N. Locust, Kansas City, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any organization that supports children or to NorthCare Hospice House.
Arrangements are in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
