Carl E. Kurtz Jr.
Carl E. Kurtz Jr., 72, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away February 24, 2015.
Carl was born May 19, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Carl E. and Bernice Kurtz. Carl grew up in Rapid City, S.D. He studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas City Art Institute, and his Master’s Degree from Indiana University. Carl taught at the Kansas City Art Institute for 41 years. His teaching and his spirit reached thousands of students. He earned international recognition for his calligraphy and art works. Carl’s intellectual and artistic pursuits led him to travel the world. Carl was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lynda; daughter, Erin and husband, Jim Brockman; son, Christopher Kurtz; grandchildren, Bridger Brockman, Bellamy Brockman, Willa Kurtz; and his brother, Richard Kurtz.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo., with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or First United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs.
