Billie Gene Routh

6/12/1927 ~ 6/24/2020

Bill passed peacefully on June 24, 2020 at the age of 93 after a brief battle with acute myeloid leukemia, while surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves behind his wife, Rosa Lee; four children, Cheryle Stephan and husband Greg, Ronald Routh, Michael Routh, and Debbi LeGros and husband David. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three siblings, Dorothy Haling, Joyce Gillespie and Jerry Routh.

Bill was born in Cedar County, Mo., to Raymond and Marie Routh on June 12, 1927. He was the first of eight children born in this union. He and his beloved wife, Rosa Lee, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary September 24, 2019. They lived in Lee’s Summit, Mo., for the last 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Raymond Junior Routh, Roy Charles “RC” Routh, Shirley Davis and Sue Henry; his daughter-in-law, Terri Routh; and grand-daughter, Rebecca Stephan.

Bill often referred to himself as a simple man who lived a simple life. He loved to share stories from his life experiences and his memory was amazingly sharp up to the very end.

As a young family man he instilled his love of traveling and discovering the great outdoors of America to his family by taking them on numerous vacations of which he continued that tradition with his grandchildren.  When Bill retired from American Can Company after 40 plus years he spent his new found freedom fishing for crappie, bowling, playing golf and continued traveling.  To help occupy the hours of the day Bill volunteered as a marshal at Shamrock Hills Golf Course in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Per his wish, he was cremated.  A Memorial Service will be held at a later date still to be determined.

Bill will be certainly missed by all who knew him!

Our Sincere Condolences
