Lila Kaye Crawford Weissenbach

Lila Kaye Crawford WeissenbachLila Kaye Crawford Weissenbach passed away surrounded by her husband of 56 years, Ed, and her three children, Jonna, Scott, and Kellen at Kansas University Medical Center on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Those four, along with daughters-in-law, Lisa (Scott) Weissenbach, Sarah (Kellen) Weissenbach and sister, Lisa Crawford, faithfully surrounded her with love for her entire two week hospital stay, never leaving her alone.

Lila was born to William Harrison (Bill) and Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Rainwater Crawford on July 2, 1946 in Lawson, Mo. She graduated from Lawson High School in 1964 having attended Lawson schools all twelve years. Lila attended William Jewell College and UMKC Nursing School. She was united in marriage to Ed Weissenbach on June 2, 1967 in Lawson. Ed and Lila welcomed Jonna in 1968, Scott in 1971, and Kellen in 1977. She spent most of her time as a devoted full time mother and as a volunteer at various charitable thrift stores everywhere she lived as they followed Ed’s career opportunities as a teacher/coach in Gallatin, and Lawson, and an Insurance Executive in St. Joseph, Springfield, and Kansas City, Mo., Fargo, N.D., St. Paul, Minn., Topeka, Kans., and Lake Viking, (Gallatin), Mo., and finally in retirement at Smithville, Mo. While in St. Joseph, she fostered several dogs and in Fargo she fostered four babies. Needless to say she was good at it and with moving.

Lila is survived by her husband, Ed; three children, Jonna, Scott, and Kellen; her grandchildren, Nicholas Underhill, Ali (Noah) Lorentzen, Ashley Weissenbach, William Weissenbach, and Carson Weissenbach; step grandchildren, Luke (Shae) Powers and Lauren Wyckoff (Wes); great-grandchildren; sister, Lisa Crawford; sister-in-law, Joyce Crowley; nephew, Jeff Crowley; nieces, Jennifer Johnson and Kendall Crowley; Whitley the cat; Tillie the dog; and friends galore.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; grandson, Quentin Underhill; and many loved ones too numerous to mention.

A visitation will be held at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Lawson on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 5 to7 p.m., with memorial services at Lawson Christian-Presbyterian Church Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11 a.m., followed by inurnment at Lawson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you want to remember Lila with a gift, you may give to Chip and Dale Dog Rescue in her name. PayPal address: Rescue.chicks@gmail.com
