Carmen Moreno Denny

Carmen Moreno DennyCarmen Moreno Denny passed away on December 13, 2023. She was born on October 2, 1939 and grew up in Long Beach, California. She was born to Antonio and Eva (Galaz) Moreno, the fourth of seven children.

She graduated from Poly High School in Long Beach. She first worked at the Long Beach Drive-In Theatre, where she met the love of her life, Bruce Denny. Later, she worked with several family members at the Sav-on warehouse until retiring.

Her life in Long Beach revolved around family and friends. She had a big heart and took in anyone that needed a place to stay or a meal. Anyone, from any walk of life, that entered her life, was treated as her own. Mama Carmen made sure you were taken care of, no matter what you were going through, you
could depend on the Denny household for help. They always had an open door.

In 1993, she moved to Kearney, Missouri, to be closer to her grandchildren. She began working at the Kearney Truck Stop where she worked for several years and then worked for another five years at Southview Elementary School before finally retiring for the second time.

Her family grew once more when she walked into the La Fuente restaurant. She had many good times there where she became known as Abuela (grandma). She loved her restaurant family.

She also loved sports. Her first loves were the Dodgers and Lakers but that changed when she moved to Missouri. She watched every Royals and Chiefs game and her grandchildren’s sports. She loved watching
Tennis and going to the casino.

She loved her family and always remembered to send cards for their birthdays. She was loved so much and will truly be missed. She lived her life to the fullest, filled with happiness, love and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Antonio Moreno; her husband, Bruce Denny; sisters, Rosie McLean, Nora Morales, and Barbara Katalinas; brothers, Gilbert and David; son, Chad; and granddaughters, Elle and Phoebe.

She is survived by her brother, Tony Moreno; children, Mikel Barnette, Gina Denny, Darren Denny, Denise Davenport, Marc Denny, Patty Turbyfill, Lee Davenport, Molly Denny, Jennifer Barnette and Michelle Denny; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held in California.

Arrangements in care of Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney.
