Samuel Glenn Tompkins, 67, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away February 19, 2025 after a brief illness.
Sam was born July 18, 1957 to Verlin and Frances (Hall) Tompkins. Sam grew up in Lawrence, KS, and moved to Lansing, KS, when he was 14 years old. He was a 1975 graduate of Lansing High School. During his career, Sam worked in the energy business for over 30 years.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Verlin Tompkins, and a brother, Tom Tompkins.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Kara Berger (Tom), Laura Tompkins (Justin Dent), and Karen Tompkins (James Wetzel); and sons, James Tompkins (Valerie Lake) and Joseph Tompkins (Ashley); mother, Frances Tompkins; sister, Dana Shopfner (Bruce); brothers, Philip Tompkins (Sharon) and Eric Tompkins; grandson, Damien Tompkins; and other relatives too numerous to mention.
Sam had a love of sports cars and enjoyed working on them. He also enjoyed playing guitar with his brothers. He leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and dedication to his family. His quick wit and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Cremation with a celebration of life planned at a later date.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Sam in high school and a few years after, but lost track of him over time. Always remember that grin and his sense of humor. Saddened to hear of his passing.
